BAR HARBOR, Maine (WABI) – The Acadia National Park Advisory Board met virtually Monday to discuss the 2020 season and the upcoming 2021 tourist season.

Visitor numbers to the park fell 22 percent last season, but much of that decline was seen in May and June.

However, due to the shutdown of the Island Explorer, personal vehicle visits had increased

The park says the reservation pilot program has been very successful, although much remains to be done to figure out how to implement the program at the Bass Harbor Light and Sand Beach entrance.

“We are turning to Cadillac Summit Road, where we are focusing on all efforts to improve sandy beach access going forward,” said John Kelly, Acadia National Park management assistant.

For the Cadillac Summit Road, a vehicle reservation is required for the coming season, which is separate from the required park entry pass.
