BOSTON (CBS) – Break out the cannoli and take a walk in the North End. Businesses and restaurants across the city are ready for the return of tourists.

Luca Pircareillo’s family-run Modern Pastry has been around for 91 years. “Come back, we miss you. We really need you We are a local company and we need your help, ”said Pircareillo.

The hotel and tourism industries are still suffering from the pandemic.

“Tourism revenue is up to 70% and hotel room revenue is down 80% year over year,” said Martha Sheridan, Greater Boston Visitors’ Bureau.

On Monday, incumbent Boston Mayor Kim Janey announced one new initiative called All Inclusive Boston This is intended to attract visitors to the city’s tourism and hospitality destinations that have been hard hit by the COVID pandemic.

The campaign also aims to lose the city’s racist reputation. A recent Saturday Night Live skit even classified Boston as a racist.

“I haven’t seen SNL. I went to bed early. Boston has a reputation for being a racist city, we all know that here. I stand in front of you as the first female Balck mayor of our city and first female mayor, and that symbolizes how far we have come. But I was the first to say that we still have a lot to do, ”said Janey.

Boston all-inclusive ads will appear in New England and the Tri-State area where potential visitors can be reached by car from Boston.

M&M BBQ at Dorchester Brewing hopes the news gets out.

“Boston is very diverse and people are not adequately informed about what is going on in the city and what we can offer in the area,” said Geovanni Lambert of M&M BBQ.

Now all they need is people from different backgrounds to fill those empty spaces.

“We have a cleaning company that comes in and disinfects every surface with high touch. We have the tracking system. We really only adjusted for this summer, ”said Anthony Traniello of Dorchester Brewery.
