Why are there only 98 companies on BTN’s Corporate Travel 100 this year? That’s a good question. Due to the massive decline in business travel during the pandemic, BTN made the editorial decision to base this year’s Corporate Travel 100 on and follow up on the same list of companies as last year to understand the impact of the pandemic on their programs. Two companies from the 2020 CT 100 merged with two other companies on the list, effectively reducing our universe of follow-ups to 98.

BTN’s 2021 CT 100 is based on 2020 airline tickets purchased at all US outlets for domestic and international business travel. David Meyer, BTN’s Executive Director of Conference Content and Strategy, contacted each company at the 2020 Corporate Travel 100 to conduct a follow-up interview and online survey to find out how each company is addressing business travel reduction and how their travel programs are doing adjusted in the meantime and whether the pause would bring about fundamental changes.

Certain companies reject the reach of BTN. For companies that have chosen not to confirm US air travel volume, BTN used industry sources, published reports and other information about specific programs to provide an estimate of US air travel volume. Estimates are noted in the offers. The BTN editorial team would like to thank David Meyer for his efforts this year – and every year – in gathering and interviewing this important group of business travel professionals.
