Posted on March 4th, 2021 via Daily News Egypt – The Committee for the Promotion of Cultural Tourism in Luxor, led by Mohamed Osman, announced on Tuesday the launch of a campaign in support of cultural tourism that will last until October 2021.

Throughout the campaign, the committee wants to send messages from archaeologists working in the city to countries around the world. The messages are sent through the excavation missions in Upper Egypt.

The first message came from the Egyptology researcher Teresa in the Luxor Temple, who has been working with the Spanish mission on the western mainland for years.

Teresa’s message highlighted the efforts of the Egyptian government to protect Egyptian temples including the Luxor Temple.

The embassy also assured that the tourism sector is strictly applying and complying with all precautions against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in tourism establishments and archaeological destinations.

She encouraged Spanish visitors to travel to Luxor to see the great human civilization, many temples and hundreds of tombs, the colors and inscriptions of which have been preserved for thousands of years.

Visitors will also see the recent discoveries that have taken place in various areas of the western mainland, as well as many huge archaeological projects across Egypt.

For his part, Osman stressed the importance of Spanish tourism, adding that Luxor Airport will receive two charter flights from Madrid on March 27 and April 3, with each flight carrying 120 tourists.

He noted that Egypt needs to take good account of the Spanish market as it is one of the main sources of tourist flow to archaeological destinations.

Speaking to Daily News Egypt, Osman said that Egypt hosted more than 300,000 Spanish tourists a year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

He mentioned that visitors from Spain are not only limited to the winter season, but also visit archaeological and tourist destinations during the summer season, which must be well used in the upcoming period.

Osman noted that there are many positive messages in this initiative, including Luxor’s willingness to receive international flights, particularly Luxor Airport, given the activities of the Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee.

This particularly concerns the exploitation of the low rate of people infected with COVID-19 in Upper Egypt.

Osman added that the governorates of Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea and South Sinai in Egypt have the lowest numbers of COVID-19 infections, so it is important to promote cultural tourism there.
