Etihad Airways announced the appointment of Nadia Bastaki as Chief Human Resources, Organizational Development and Asset Management Officer, becoming the first female chief executive of the UAE’s national airline.

Prior to this position, Bastaki had been a key member of the Human Resources Leadership Team since 2014 as Vice President Medical Services, with responsibility for running the aero-medical center and ensuring the general health and wellbeing of employees, as well as promoting diversity and inclusion and programs Corporate Social Responsibility at Etihad Airways.

Bastaki joined the national airline in 2007, became the first female UAE citizen to specialize in aviation medicine and was a key figure in developing Etihad Airways Medical Center into a leading aero medical center in the region.

During the pandemic, Bastaki played a pivotal role in overseeing the airline’s health and safety response to the global crisis and in direct coordination with the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, the General Civil Aviation Authority and SEHA.

Bastaki has nearly 20 years of medical experience and holds a Masters in Occupational Medicine from Manchester University and a Diploma in Aviation Medicine from King’s College London. In addition to the new lead role, Bastaki will continue to assume overall clinical management for the Etihad Airways Medical Center.
