Taking place on Thursday September 15, between 10.30-12.30, the interactive workshop is targeted at every port and destination that is not in the Arctic or Antarctica and is looking at attracting expedition calls.

‘This fleet is growing, and cruise lines are looking laterally across the globe for deployment opportunities,’ shared Gammon.

‘This workshop offers an opportunity for expedition cruise line executives to share what destinations need to deliver shoreside to entice them to call; and for destinations that are very capable of delivering mind-blowing, rewarding, and unique expedition-styled shoreside experiences, to better understand what expedition cruise lines are seeking from a destination,’ Seatrade Cruise’s expedition ambassador added.

Joining Gammon as table hosts to impart insights and steer discussion are: James Griffiths, VP marine operations, Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours; Linda-Marie Hogsten, Head of Shore Excursions, Hurtigruten Expeditions; Frederique Patry, manager itinerary planning Silversea Cruises and Michaela Sauer, expedition activity development manager, Ponant.

‘Seatrade Cruise has been following the growth of expedition cruising, not only in the polar regions, but also in other parts of the globe, for a few years now,’ commented Mary Bond, group portfolio director Seatrade Cruise.

‘In 2021 we launched our first dedicated content in support of this sector’s development: Seatrade Cruise Virtual Expediton Cruising – a week long online event which was hugely popular. This was followed by our first Expedition Day at Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami this year. It is clear there is a desire from the cruise operators in this niche sector to explore new destinations as the fleet grows but not all expedition companies are the same and they don’t all operate in the same manner so there is a huge opportunity for learning by all players which is why we are introducing this first Expedition Workshop at Seatrade Cruise Med,’ she added.

The aim of the workshop is to encourage collective creative thinking, drive port potential and focus on how to get the attention of expedition cruise lines.
