The Territory Labor Government continues to support tourism in Central Australia and Alice Springs with a $ 1.25 million boost to tourism in Central Australia.

This investment strengthens the Commonwealth government’s $ 3.5 million regional tourism grant for Central Australia.

The funding will promote Central Australian packages with an incentive “Mates Rates” to reduce the cost of tourism experiences in the area.

This activity is expected to result in $ 10 million retail spending in Alice Springs and the Lasseter area.

The Northern Territory government also supports a number of tourism marketing activities planned for Central Australia through June 2021.

One success story that supported the Red Center visit is the $ 5 million NT summer sale.

The program has already attracted more than 4,000 bookings with gross revenue of $ 15.5 million – accounting for 53 percent of reservations made in Central Australia.

Central Australia’s future also looks bright with the popular Alice Springs Masters Games, which will return from October 1st next year.

The Alice Springs Masters Games are a major attraction for interstate athletes and tourists visiting the Red Center.

The Northern Territory Government will continue to work with tourism stakeholders to promote Central Australia and promote the visitor economy.

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Natasha Fyles:

“This $ 1.25 million investment by the Territory Labor Government is a vote of confidence in the cooperation of the tourism industry in Central Australia.

“The Red Center is a unique part of Australia and offers an exciting range of world class tourist experiences.

“World-class experiences like the Parrtjima Festival in April put this region on the map for all the right reasons.

“With the introduction of COVID vaccines across the Northern Territory, we are excited to be on the road to recovery.”

Quotes from Tourism Central Australia Chairman Patrick Bedford:

“The tourism industry in Central Australia is facing the darkest days due to the pandemic and the impact on visits.

“This funding will give our industry and morale booster a much needed shot in the arm at a time when it is badly needed.

“A visit to Central Australia will always be a must, full of adventure, culture and breathtaking natural landscapes.

“Tourism Central Australia thanks the Northern Territory Government for this financial support at a time when the operators need it most.
