In a first round MHSAA regional tournament game on May 19, Huron Valley United girls’ lacrosse team cruised to a 22-1 win over Waterford United. Junior Casey Meadows had a career game, exploding for seven goals in the first half to lead Huron Valley to the lopsided win.

Senior Jenna Hoppe got things rolling less than a minute into the matinee game played at Waterford Mott with a shot to lead 1-0. Meadows scored her first goal with 23:40 left in the opening half and tallied her seventh goal of the game with 40 seconds left in the first half to make it 13-0.

“Overall, I think I did really well, and I think the team did really well,” said Meadows. “I got a lot of plays and it worked out really well. At first we didn’t have many clean passes, but after the second half we got told to clean up the passes and clean up the plays.”

Huron Valley traveled to Clarkston for a second-round regional game on May 24 to take on the Lady Wolves. Meadows and her teammates knew they will have to be ready.

“Basically, be ready for the next game because the next team is going to be a little bit harder and just keep working on of all our stick skills and work on our plays and have all of us remember that.”

Meadows likes how the team has improved over the course of the season. “Mostly working together. A lot of us would like mostly do one-on-ones and I think working together getting our plays.”

Head coach Larry Mason was happy that 11 different players scored in the tournament game, saying, “I liked the movement. I liked the give and go; it was nice to see. We brought up some of our younger players in the program and got to see them actually get into the same system. What I would like to see moving forward is the way we started out the game.”

Meadows led the way with seven goals, while Hoppe got the hat trick with three goals. Huron Valley (16-3) advanced to second round regional game at Clarkston (7-8) on May 24.
