“While US borders remain closed to much of the world, the remarkable scientific advances in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and massive vaccine use have enabled your government to safely resume many activities,” the letter said. “For all its economic and cultural contributions, international travel should be part of it and it will accelerate the economic recovery we all want.”

In addition, the letter calls on the White House to establish a “public health corridor” between the USA and UK due to its importance as a travel market and the similar pace of vaccinations and falling infection rates.

The US Travel Association also urges the government to use the upcoming G7 summit to commit to other world leaders to develop and implement a global framework for reopening international travel.

“The US must be the world leader in resuming international travel,” it said. “With science and data as a guide, it is possible to reopen our borders and establish these important public health corridors.”
