Bramanti’s 23 points and Santoro double-double leads Skyhawks to third-straight win

EASTON, Mass. (February 17, 2022) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 9 in this week’s D2SIDA East Region poll as well as the first NCAA Division II East Regional rankings released today, led from start to finish to claim a 72-51 victory over Saint Michael’s College in Northeast-10 Conference women’s basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

How it happened

  • Stonehill led start to finish, scoring the first eight points of the game, including four apiece by Bramanti and senior Sophie Gliddenon its way to a 16-8 lead after ten minutes of play.
  • The Skyhawks lead reached double figures for the first time (12-2) after a Bramanti layup 5:15 into the game.
  • Stonehill carried the eight-point cushion into the second quarter and reclaimed its ten-point lead (18-8) after a step back jumper from Santoro a minute in.
  • Saint Michael’s followed with a 9-2 spurt, sparked by a Blake three, to close back within three (20-17) after a hook shot from junior Anika Kapral with 5:54 left in the half.
  • Stonehill answered with eight straight, including five from Bramanti, to grab an 11-point lead (28-17) after two Bramanti free-throws with 2:41 left in the half.
  • Stonehill carried a ten-point lead (30-20) into halftime and then quickly stretched it to 13 with three-straight points from Santoro to open the third quarter.
  • Stonehill’s lead grew to 22 (54-32) heading into the final quarter as the Skyhawks outscored Saint Michael’s 24-12 in the third overall.
  • Stonehill wouldn’t let the guests back within 17 the rest of the way.

Noteworthy

  • Bramanti posted her fourth 20-point game of the season, scoring in double-figures for the 13th time (26 career).
  • Santoro notched her second double-double of the season (third career), scoring in double-figures for the tenth time this season (21st career).
  • Tonight’s win marks the 399th victory in head coach Trisha Brown‘s career, who has posted a 399-183 (.686) record in her 21 years at Stonehill.
  • Stonehill has won three-straight for the second time this season, seven of eight and nine of 11 games in the last month.
  • Today’s game continues a February stretch for Stonehill that will see it play nine games over the final three weeks of the regular season. The Skyhawks are not scheduled to have more than two days off (just one remaining) between games over the next 15 days.
