MOSCOW, March 20. / TASS /. Montenegro’s authorities are not planning to close the border and are actively preparing for the tourist season, said State Secretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Economic Development, Ivana Djurovic, in an interview with TASS.

“From now on we do not expect the border to be closed, we are preparing for the tourist season. The vaccination process is becoming increasingly important and we have no reason to think about closing the border,” she said.

Podgorica believes the epidemiological situation will improve, added Djurovic.

On March 2, the President of Montenegro, Milo Dukanovic, proposed an initiative to shortly close the country’s borders due to the coronavirus and speed up vaccination, although this was not welcomed by the government. Foreign Minister Djordje Radulovic was later reported to have sent letters to EU member states calling on NATO and the European Union to help due to the difficult health care situation amid the spread of the coronavirus.
