The city of Montreal has used its emergency powers to seize two downtown hotels that are used as accommodation for COVID-19 Patients and indigenous people who are homeless.

One building will provide 111 places for homeless people who have tested positive for COVID-19 but do not need hospitalization, as well as those who have been isolated because of the virus and are waiting for a COVID-19 test result.

The shelter will be operational this week and will be managed by the Center-Sud Regional Health Authority and the Old Brewery Mission.

From February a second hotel will provide 50 beds in emergency shelters for homeless indigenous people. This hotel is located in the Milton Park area and is managed by the Indigenous projects in Quebec .

The city did not publish the addresses of the two hotels.

the State of emergency last week by Mayor Valérie Plante. called out enables the city to perform tasks that require manpower and material resources without having to post a tender. The state of emergency was triggered by the pandemic and was first declared in Montreal on March 27, 2020. It was initially valid until August 23, 2021.
