NEW JERSEY – Senator Joe Pennacchio urged Governor Phil Murphy to bring the New Jersey National Guard home from Washington DC after reports that military personnel deployed in the capital to ensure President Joe Biden’s inauguration were reported to be in sleep on the floor had been banished from parking garages. The only problem was that this wasn’t the case for the New Jersey people.

“Some people in this state have made irresponsible statements without calling me or asking either of us the facts,” Murphy said. “So I’d say next time give us a call and make sure you clarify your facts.”

Pennacchio said that after two weeks of security, thousands of guards were ordered out of the Capitol complex and relocated to parking garages and subcamps.

“While the politicians and brokers were partying and having a great time inside, the security guard was banned from sleeping on cold, damp, oil-stained concrete floors,” Pennacchio said. “It was inexcusable and unjustifiable treatment.

Murphy said at no point had the New Jersey contingent been subjected to this treatment.

“I was as angry as anyone when I saw pictures of women security guards from across the country sleeping on the floor of a parking garage. That way our heroes cannot be treated,” he said. “Fortunately, none of our guards, none of the New Jersey guards, have faced such disrespect. We have provided hotel accommodation to our guards throughout their operations in Washington, and will continue to do so. We will make sure they always have one safe and warm place to recharge. ”

Pennacchio said it was time to get the New Jersey troops home immediately. Murphy said people need to remember why the guard was there in the first place.

“You are here because there was a riot in our Capitol,” he said. “And they have to be there to protect our democratic institutions and literally the individual.”
