Well folks, the NBA offseason is just around the corner and the Boston Celtics may very well find themselves at the center of all the trade tensions … as they have done over and over again for the past decade.

Portland Trailblazers superstar is point guard Damian Lillard likely to hit the trading bloc soon, and the teams will circle like sharks to land the best ground general of last season.

Realistically, all 29 other teams – including those with point guards – will register a certain interest in the 6x All-Star. But that doesn’t mean the teams will put all of their assets together to win it.

After turning 31 yesterday, Lillard still has two to three years at his current level, barring injuries. Of course, Chris Paul is currently proving with Western Conference champion Phoenix Suns that elite point guard games can continue into their thirties, but that’s far from the norm.

Ipso facto, only teams with ambitions will soon make sense. Lillard will likely end up with a team that believes he is the missing piece and has good but expendable assets to part with to combine the Weber State great alongside an existing All-Star piece.

Luka Doncic and Damian Lillard would be a hell of a one-on-one at the Metroplex, but what may keep the team from making such a deal is the lack of trading assets.

The New York Knicks own both the 2021 and 2023 draft capital and youth picks to close a deal due to the Kristaps Porzingis deal in 2019.
