Electric utility regulators in the Montana Public Service Commission are introducing a new agenda item in their meetings to help ensure members adhere to agencies’ travel policies.

The commissioners explained their business trips at a meeting on Tuesday at which Chairman James Brown said travel updates would be an integral part of commission meetings from now on.

“This is a new agenda item to help the Commission meet its obligations under the Bluebook,” he said.

The change follows a Financial compliance audit the Montana Legislative Audit Division published in May. The audit found that the PSC did not follow the agency’s financial policy in fiscal years 2019 and 2020.

The results of the audit include mishandled travel funds, missing documents and waste of government funds.
