Rockland County Announces Tourism Grants for 2021
Neustadt, NY, – County Executive Ed Day and Director of Economic Development and Tourism Lucy Redzeposki announced $ 175,691 in grants to 18 organizations promoting tourism in Rockland. Representatives from many organizations attended the announcement at Palisades Credit Union Park, home of the New York Boulders, in Pomona.
“When I first took office in January 2014, I vowed to find new and innovative ways to bring money to Rockland County. More than 7 years and a few hurdles later, we did just that. ” said County Executive Day. “Today we are taking another step to further improve and enrich life in our community. But it’s not just about adding events, theater and the arts to our county, it’s about bringing visitors and the money they spend to Rockland. “
According to the New York State Empire State Development’s latest Tourism Economic Study, tourism accounts for 7.1 percent of total Rockland employment and generates more than $ 30 million in local taxes. Without the tourism-generated sales and local taxes, the average Rockland household would have to pay an additional $ 585 in annual taxes to maintain current services.
“The tourism money that goes to these agencies is county dollars and they come with a number of performance expectations. We have every confidence that the organizations receiving this funding will use it to bring visitors here to see all that Rockland has to offer. And I know our baseball, music, theater, arts, riverside and downtown cities keep them coming back again and again. This is the way forward. We have created a resilient environment in which businesses thrive and jobs are created. ” said County Executive Day.
$ 10,000 was given to the New York Boulders to promote the upcoming visit by the Israeli Olympic baseball team on Monday, July 12, the NYPD FDNY baseball game on Saturday, August 28, and other events.
“We pride ourselves on being one of the premier tourist attractions in Rockland County, and we just had a record-breaking July 4th with nearly 6,000 visitors to the Boulders.” said Shawn Reilly, President of the NY Boulders Team. “We are happy to promote the Boulders, to have the Israeli Olympic team here, and we are happy that the New York Police will play against the New York Fire Department later this summer.”
