SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar District Judge Nelson Wolff made a joint statement on Saturday as severe weather continues to rule the state and local areas.

In a joint statement, city and county officials called on residents to take “appropriate precautions” before the expected winter storm.

The winter weather will move in the region Sunday afternoon to Monday morning – snow and ice are expected. We strongly advise against traveling from Sunday evening to Monday.

The joint statement by Nirenberg and Wolff activated the contingency management plans of the city of San Antonio and Bexar Counties. The declaration also allows the city and county to seek state and federal reimbursements for services rendered in response to the severe winter storm.

“Play it safe and take the weather forecast seriously,” Nirenberg said in a statement. “Stay home when you can and don’t go on risky, unnecessary trips with ice cream on the way.”

Wolff said he and other district leaders are urging residents to seek shelter from the cold.

“Bexar County is experiencing some record high temperatures and freezing conditions,” Wolff said. “The district’s emergency operations are fully effective in order to protect our residents as well as possible. However, this weather is being held longer than originally assumed. We urge every resident to seek shelter from the cold, safely warm their homes and stay away from the streets. “

City administrator Erik Walsh said the San Antonio Police Department and Public Works Department would continue to monitor road conditions.

The city’s utility company, CPS Energy, is also urging residents to reduce the amount of energy used for electricity and natural gas supplies.

“You can save energy by setting your thermostat to 68 to 70 degrees, keeping doors and windows closed to avoid heat loss, and wearing warm, comfortable clothing,” said a statement from CPS Energy.
