Singapore and Australia are discussing the possibility of an air travel bubble without quarantine

As answer to an article from The Sydney Morning Herald, titled “Australia and Singapore Plan Travel Bubble and Quarantine Hub by July”, The Singapore Foreign Ministry issued a statement to clarify what is at stake during the ongoing discussion.

The ministry noted that Australia is a key partner for Singapore in the region and noted that the two countries are currently debating how to work together in opening their economies safely, taking into account the COVID-19 situation in both places .

So far, Singapore and Australia have been able to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the mutual recognition of vaccination certificates and the resumption of travel with priority for students and business travelers are currently being discussed.

Both governments are also discussing the possibility of an air travel bubble that would allow residents of Singapore and Australia to travel between the two countries without quarantine.

Contrary to the reports, however, the countries are not discussing the concept of a quarantine center or a vaccination center.

The ministry also noted that Australian nationals can currently travel through Singapore without quarantine to return home if they are traveling on approved transit routes and following Singapore public health protocols during transit.
