Singapore Minister of Transport S. Iswaran said: “With the recent surge in unlinked cases in the community, Singapore cannot meet the criteria to start the Singapore-Hong Kong air travel bubble.”

On May 17th, Singaporeans and Hong Kongers burst their (flight) bubbles. After Singapore Minister of Transport S. Iswaran met with Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Edward Yau, it was announced that the Singapore-Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble (ATB) will be postponed for the second time.

This was due to the fact that Singapore has recently faced an increasing number of community cases. Minister Iswaran reiterated: “With the recent increase in unlinked cases in the Community, Singapore cannot meet the criteria to start the Singapore-Hong Kong air travel bubble.”

It was therefore agreed that the launch would be postponed again between the two countries in order to protect the health of travelers and the public.

This second edition of the ATB should start earlier on May 26, 2021;; however, under stricter Covid-19 measures compared to its predecessor.

The first travel bubble should start on November 22nd, 2020. with plans, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS)to have a flight of 200 passengers to each city per day. The day before, however, the former Singapore Minister of Transport, Ong Ye Kung, announced this it will be postponed until 2021 with the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong

Singapore and Hong Kong will now monitor the public health situation in both locations and review the new start date of ATB flights in the direction the end of phase 2 (increased warning).
