Visit California, the nonprofit agency promoting tourism in the state, is launching a new campaign to encourage California to take a summer vacation in the state.

The campaign comes as state officials report that total tourism revenue has fallen by about 55% since the coronavirus pandemic began.

As of March 2019, Visit California officials have estimated that Californians spent approximately $ 12 billion on vacations outside of the state.

At the same time, the Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau works to promote local tourism.

Today, News Channel 3 will cover state and local efforts to boost tourism as the industry seeks to recover from losses suffered during the pandemic.
