CINCINNATI – Texas quarterback Deshaun Watson is in a unique position.

The 25 year old is unhappy in Houston and could ask for a trade. Watson signed a four-year extension for $ 156 million last September that included a no-trade clause.

This gives the three-time pro bowler some leverage on potential trade talks. He would have to forego his no-trade clause to close a deal, which means Watson has some control over his next target.

He has the AFC East in his sights after Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

“Watson said this week that the Jets are his top preference among the teams he would like to trade with because they coached Robert Saleh and Watson Saleh values so much that he wanted the Texans to have him for theirs vacant head coach interviewing job, ” Salguero wrote. “Watson confirmed reports that were circulating in the national media for several weeks. He would also welcome playing for the Dolphins, but said it is currently his second choice.”

Both the Jets and the Dolphins have the ammo to get Watson. They have second and third selections in the 2021 NFL Draft.

They also have young quarterbacks in Sam Darnold and Tua Tagovailoa that the Texans may find interesting in a possible trade.

Watson would make the Dolphins a potential Super Bowl contender. He would also give the Jets their first superstar quarterback since Brett Favre, who was in town for just one season (2008).

Chad Pennington was ready for action before, but New York’s last real star quarterback was Joe Namath.

Watson is considered the top 5 signal callers in the NFL. If any of the teams can land him in a trade, they should.

These aren’t the only two teams Watson noticed. The Carolina Panthers are also on his radar, according to Fox Sports’ Jason Mcintyre.

“I had someone influencing the league text and said I know you want him on the Jets. Colin, the team I heard is that the Carolina Panthers are sound asleep for Deshaun Watson . ” McIntyre said about the herd with Colin Cowherd. “Apparently, [he] tells some people that he wouldn’t mind going home. He grew up in Atlanta, about four hours from Carolina, and Matt Rhule started a pretty good foundation there in Carolina. You have a lot of good offensive weapons. Just keep an ear out for Carolina. “

It’s rare that a Watson’s talent quarterback could possibly be in the market, especially at his age. There are a lot of teams out there that would like it, but it has leverage in the off-season.
