On Monday, July 5th, a public holiday in Tonga, a float parade and fairground events took place.

The Tourism Industry and Culture Festival, which started on June 28, is hosted by the Ministry of Tourism to lighten the mood.

This is happening after more than a year, since mass gatherings, including the annual Heilala Festival, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fifteen floats took part and took part in the parade run by the CBD to Taufa’ahau Domestic Wharf. Meanwhile the fair took place on the Nuku’alofa promenade.

Hon Frederica Tuita Filipe awarded the prizes to the best cars in two competing categories.

In the culture category, the Fisi’ihangale Handicraft Development Group from Va’epopua won first place, while the To’utupu Siulanga he ‘Ofa from Nukuhetulu took second place.

First place went to in the Business category TIHE– School of Tourism and Hospitality, second was a link between the Ministry of Customs Income and Digicel.

The Ministry of Education swimmer came third.

The prizes were $ 2,000 in cash for first place, $ 1,500 for second and third place were awarded $ 1,000 Pa’anga.

All participants received consolation prizes of $ 300 each.

The parade also featured the colorful Marching School Bands from Tailulu College, Tonga College, Tonga High School and Teacher’s Training College.
