The exhibitions were created with the intention of spreading love in Vancouver and bringing some joy to the city after a dark winter

To break the dark monotony of a quarantined winter, Tourism Vancouver has created a series of exhibits designed to spread love and joy around the city.

The campaign, called #LoveVancouver Dance Bubbles, was created in collaboration with the BIA in Downtown Vancouver, the BIA in Robson and the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center Hotel. Described in a recent press release as a unique passive outdoor experience, the campaign will include light and dance performances projected in various locations in the city center and performed at some distance.

“We’re doing our part to restore the vibrancy of our popular city,” said Royce Chwin, President and CEO of Tourism Vancouver. “We’re creating a safe and physically detached outdoor art and lighting experience that we hope will make residents smile and create another reason for people to get out and enjoy what downtown Vancouver has to offer . “

This March, residents can take a stroll around the light and dance installation outdoors every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Thursdays: Lot 19, 855 W Hastings St. (between W Hastings St. and W Cordova St. at the foot of Hornby St.)
  • Fridays: Courtyard of the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center, 1000 Burrard St.
  • Saturdays: Bute and Alberni Plaza

The dancers in the bubbles are from Small Stage, a local dance production and creation company in partnership with Tourism Vancouver. The performances show a variety of styles, genres, and cultures. Some of the dance styles on display include indigenous dance performance and indigenous futurism, ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip hop, flamenco, Spanish and Egyptian oriental belly dance.

Teri Smith, General Manager of the Robson Business Improvement Association, is delighted with the pop-up installations in Bute Street plazas.

“Delivering innovative outdoor experiences during these challenging times is contributing to community and spiritual well-being, economic recovery, and supporting our local arts and cultural organizations,” said Smith.

As part of the #LoveVancouver campaign, Tourism Vancouver is seeking tourism and hospitality professionals to get creative with video submissions Reading the organization’s love letter. Select entries will receive a US $ 100 Visa Gift Card.

If you stop by one of the installations and feel the need to share the experience on social media, Tourism Vancouver recommends tagging @Inside_Vancouver on Instagram and using the hashtag #LoveVancouver.
