The Turkish Ministry of Health has expressed its willingness to work with Zambia in developing the country’s health sector and promoting health tourism.

At a recent meeting between Mehmet Kılıçkaya, a senior official in the Turkish International Health Service (USHAŞ), and Zambian envoy Joseph Chilengi, both sides expressed their willingness to promote bilateral cooperation.

“Our mission is to promote the Turkish health system,” said Kılıçkaya, adding that it is effectively fighting the coronavirus pandemic at home while helping other countries.

The Zambian envoy said his country was trying to focus on the health sector as part of its 7th National Development Plan.

“The Turkish health system is globally competitive … we’ve seen it in challenging times,” said Chilengi. “Infrastructure and systems are constantly being improved and expertise is being shared with the rest of the world.”

In the meantime, a Zambian company has also signed a contract with a Turkish manufacturer of motor vehicles and heavy industrial filters that meet EU standards.

The volume of trade between Turkey and Zambia in 2019 was $ 23.8 million.

Turkey’s exports to Zambia totaled $ 17.86 million while imports from East Africa totaled $ 5.9 million.
