At the corner of New Hope Road and Remount Road, a planned Tru by Hilton Hotel is taking shape.

A native of Gastonia, Ahswin Shah believes his new hotel business will help attract more businesses and families to Gastonia.

Shah started his hospitality career more than 30 years ago. He owns Lakshmi Hotels Inc. in addition to serving as a Hilton hotel franchisee.

“The hotel has many advantages, including being close to Charlotte,” said Shah. “This is going to be a really good thing.”

Construction on a new hotel on North New Hope Road will continue on Tuesday morning, December 7, 2021.

The construction work for the hotel is ongoing.

Tru by Hilton represents one of the many Hilton Hotels brands that typically boast modern aesthetics, games in the lobby, and a 24/7 snack and beverage market.

Rock Hill-based construction company JM Cope Construction is acting as the general contractor for the project.

General Contractor Superintendent Robin Sandidge aims to meet the Hilton’s expectations of developing a top quality building that will invite the community to relax.

“I think the bright blues and yellows of the building will bring the area to life,” said Sandidge of the future exterior of the building.

The four-story hotel will have 99 rooms, including 69 rooms with queen-size double beds and 30 rooms with one king-size bed.

Rooms cost between $ 120 and $ 125 a night, says Shah.

The rooms are approximately 230 to 270 square meters and will also have roll-top desks, large TVs and spacious bathrooms.

Shah is hoping pets will be allowed to stay with the guests, but the decision has yet to be made by the franchise.

Guests can also enjoy indoor amenities such as the indoor pool on the first floor, a 24-hour market for snacks and meals, and conference rooms.

Shah also hopes to involve local artists in the design of the interior wall in the lobby area on the first floor.

“We want people to feel comfortable when they travel to Gastonia,” says Sandidge.

The story goes on

The hotel will have a main entrance on New Hope Road and a one-way street on Remount Road.

There will also be a guest car park that extends around the front and right sides of the building and includes 99 parking spaces.

Ashwin Shah and Robin Sandidge will pose together in front of their new project on North New Hope Road on Thursday morning, December 16, 2021.

“I think the hotel will bring diversity to the neighborhood,” said Sandidge. “The hotel will have a large, bright sign up front and it will look different from any other place here.”

Guests are also close to the Eastridge Mall and many dining options including a Bojangles, KFC, Texas Roadhouse, Waffle House and more. Several other hotel brands line Remount Road.

Shah oversees many of the Hilton Hotel franchise properties in North and South Carolina.

He expects the project to be completed in late summer 2022.
