Tourism Minister Haris Theocharis presented a comprehensive plan to resume tourism on Friday.

Theocharis, in his capacity as Chair of the Global Crisis Management Committee of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), spoke at a hybrid meeting under the auspices of Saudi Arabia and proposed a four-pillar action plan. They are the resumption of safe cross-border travel, the safe movement of tourists, the provision of liquidity to businesses in the tourism sector, and the support of work and restoring the confidence of travelers.

The tourism minister’s proposals were unanimously adopted by the plenary of the WTO committee and form his recommendations to its members. The theme of the meeting was the resumption of global tourism in 2021.

Theocharis emphasized: “The introduction of digital health solutions or digital vaccination certificates against Covid-19 will ensure the fastest possible restoration of free traffic between countries. Europe has accepted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ proposal and is implementing the Digital Green Certificate, which will help make traveling easier and strengthen tourism. “
