The signs were on everyone to change something for the Boston Celtics, and the organization wasted no time shaking things up. Less than 48 hours after being eliminated by the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the NBA playoffs, Danny Ainge stepped down as president of basketball operations and the Celtics would promote Brad Stevens to Ainge’s previous position.

With Stevens now in charge of the front office, there is one player who could be at the door: Kemba Walker. He just finished his second season with the Celtics averaging 19.3 points and 4.9 assists per game in 43 games. The seasoned point guard has struggled with injury problems in recent years and has arguably one of the worst contracts in the NBA.

At the start of the off-season, Walker has two years left on his current $ 73 million contract, with a player option for the 2022-2023 season.

The Celtics would prefer to build around Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, which makes Walker an expendable piece that moves forward. Trading Walker is easier said than done for Boston, and there’s a good chance the Celtics will need to add draft capital so a team can inherit the rest of their contract.

Given all of this, there are a handful of teams that could be a potential trading destination for Walker this off-season.
