Between September 9-14, 2021, the Thai Ministry of Public Affairs (PRD) published a series of questions and answers about vaccination certificates, inter-provincial and international travel, and vaccinations for foreigners in the country. Below you will find the respective questions and answers for locals and expats in Thailand.

Q What do I do if I have not received my vaccination certificate or my vaccination details are incorrect?

A: According to MohPromt, Thailand’s COVID-19 contact tracking app, you must inquire at the receiving hospital or the vaccination center if you have not received your vaccination certificate. If your vaccination data is incorrect, you must notify the receiving hospital or vaccination center and ask for a correction.

Q I live in a province with a dark red zone (e.g. Bangkok). Can I travel between the provinces?

A: PRD said that September 2021, some restrictions on travel between the provinces were relaxed. Travel between the provinces is allowed if necessary. But every province has different entry requirements, especially for people arriving from provinces in the dark red zone. Please check the policies in each destination province before traveling.

Q When I have finished my quarantine in a province in the dark red zone (e.g. Bangkok), I plan to visit my family in another province. Do I have to go back to quarantine when I get to my destination?

A: After you have finished your quarantine in Bangkok, for example, you will receive the release document and can present this document to the local authorities. So you should be exempt from the local quarantine. But, PRD remembersthat each province has different measures, especially for those arriving from the provinces of the dark red zone. Therefore, you need to check the requirements of your destination province, including transportation measures and requirements, before traveling.

Q Do people who have already been vaccinated in their home country have to adhere to a 14-day quarantine after entering Thailand?

A: According to the Thai Ministry of Health, People traveling from abroad must have a 14-day quarantine, even if they are fully vaccinated (i.e. two doses).

Q What does 14-day quarantine mean? Is it from the arrival time or from the check-in time at the hotel?

A: The 14-day quarantine, PRD communicated the following:, are counted from the check-in time at the hotel. Travelers can also look at this hotel list to the alternative state quarantine (AQ), an agreement for stays in state-approved hotels at the expense of the traveler.

Q Can foreigners with a tourist visa in Thailand register for the COVID-19 vaccine?

A: Thailand’s Consular Affairs Department has confirmed that foreign nationals on tourist visas in Thailand cannot register to receive COVID-19 vaccine.

However, there are two types of foreign nationals who are entitled to vaccinations ordered by the Thai government. The first is migrant workers working under Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) between countries and the Ministry of Labor (MOL). This includes employees who have a social security number. With this, MOL will provide them with COVID-19 vaccines.

The second are those who have a nonimmigrant visa. This includes those who:

  • Working with a government service visa;
  • Business people or people with a business work visa;
  • Investors with the approval of a competent ministry;
  • Investments under a Board of Investment (BOI) agreement;
  • In training, educational visit or training;
  • Authorization to work in a foreign media agency;
  • In evangelism authorized by the Department of Religious Affairs;
  • In scientific research or internship in a Thai educational institute and
  • An experienced craftsman.
