Governor Brian Kemp says his goal is to boost tourism

Tourism industry receives subsidy

MACON, Georgia (41NBC / WMGT) – As many Covid restrictions are relaxed, more people are traveling.

To bring more tourists to Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp announced a grant to help tourism recover from the pandemic.

The grant is valued at $ 2 million and Visit Macon was just one of many centers that received the $ 38,000 grant.

Visit Macon says the grant will help them attract more people to the area.

“The money is being spent right here in Macon helping all of our businesses, our attractions and all of the people who are affected by tourism,” said Valerie Bradley, VP Marketing.

To think creatively, Visit Macon says there is a scholarship scheme in place. It includes the launch of a summer and early fall campaign to highlight the great places the city has to offer.

Macon is home to many musical talents and that is what the organization wants to highlight.

“Most of all, I’m proud of the fact that people come here to expect nothing and leave,” said Richard Brent, executive director of the Big House.

The Big House attracts over 20,000 people each year. It is the second most visited place in Macon.

With the scholarship, says Brent, it will help attract even more people.
