Travel Tips: How to Stay Safe While Traveling

  • Assess risk: Assess the risks to all travelers and reconsider the trip if you have or are in an underlying health condition High risk category. If you feel sick, stay home.
  • Plan ahead: Check the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for the most current guidelines for COVID-19. Visit state and country websites to read executive directives such as: For example, mandatory masks, quarantine for residents outside of the state or the US, or testing requirements, and visit tourism association websites to verify which specific business units have been implemented.
  • Download the app: By downloading the alliance for free Travel wise AppYou have access to many security features and helpful travel resources that are available even when you don’t have a policy. Tap “Help around me”To the nearest hospitals, nearby doctors, pharmacies, and police stations US embassies if you experience an emergency overseas.
  • Be prepared: Make sure you’re stocked with extra amounts of masks, disinfectant wipes, and hand sanitizer – for both road and air travel – and bring resealable plastic bags to dispose of used items.
  • On a plane, train, bus: Wear face covering and thoroughly wipe all surfaces (especially high-touch areas such as seat buckles) before sitting down, and use hand sanitiser frequently. Consider limiting drink intake to avoid bathroom use and circulation while driving.
  • At the pump: With an increase in road travel, service areas and gas stations can become overcrowded, increasing the likelihood of exposure. Wear disposable gloves when pumping your gas and throw them in a trash can before opening the car door. To limit contact with others, pay with a credit card (disinfect with a wipe after use).
  • Bring food and water: Instead of going to concession areas, pack the coolers with your own snacks and bottled water, and bring travel-size non-perishable snacks to limit the time it takes for groceries. Each destination is different in relation to the restaurants in the restaurant. So you can opt for accommodation with a kitchenette to prepare your own food.
  • When nature calls: Public rest areas mean increased exposure. So remember not to touch up the faucet after washing your hands and take a few paper towels (and bring your own in case the supplies run low) to grab the door handles.
  • At the pool, beach, lake: Without evidence that COVID-19 can be spread through recreational water use, you should still maintain social distance, wear a mask while out of the water, and look out for common facilities.

Good to know: Although travel insurance products do not generally cover pandemics, alliance travel has provided multiple temporary accommodations to cover travel cancellations, travel interruptions and emergency medical care for those suffering from COVID-19, and has temporarily extended travel insurance premium reimbursements to customers whose travel providers have canceled their trips due to COVID-19.
