RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Ship operations to Papikondalu began on Sunday in the Godavari River. Up to 31 tourists have traveled from Rajamahendravaram to Papikondalu. APTDC division head T. Veeranarayana told TNIE that they picked up 31 tourists in Rajamahendravaram and brought them to Poshamma Gandi, 60 km by road from here. The tourists boarded the ‘Haritha’ boat at 11am and reached Papikondalu around 1.30pm. After lunch they returned to Poshamma Gandi with ‘Haritha’ around 5:30 pm.

Veeranarayana said that the first tour with tourists 22 months after Boating accident was successful. He said the ticket from Rajamahendravaram to Papikondalu costs 750 rupees per head for adults and 650 rupees for children. Tickets can be booked on the APTDC online website, he said.

He said control rooms have been set up in Rajamahendravaram, Poshamma Gandhi, Pochavaram in East Godavari, Perantallapalli and Singapalli in West Godavari. The APTDC has recruited divers and experienced swimmers to accompany the tourists. Precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of passengers, he said.
