Important urban growth markets in Latin America

Given Mexico’s robust pipeline, it is hardly surprising that three of the five largest urban hotel markets in Latin America are located in this vast country. Tulum’s tourist hotspot tops the list with 16 new hotels and 4,067 rooms, although Mexico City is right behind with 15 ongoing projects and 2,305 keys.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, suspends Mexico’s run with 13 scheduled openings that will bring a staggering 15,210 rooms to the game. Interestingly, this means that Punta Cana clearly beats the rest of the top 5 (and even some national markets) in terms of room count.

In fourth place, Cancún, another attractive coastal destination in Mexico, will be completed with 11 properties with 4,931 rooms. And the Peruvian capital Lima rounds off our ranking with ten new hotels and 1,820 keys.

International hotel brands expand in Latin America

Hilton worldwide is clearly pushing for growth across the region and has two of its brands on this list.

Hilton Garden Inn is right at the top of the path with 14 projects and 1,886 keys. Not far behind, however Hampton by Hiltonthat wants to expand its presence by 12 properties and 1,511 rooms.

Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos closes the top 3 with 11 new openings and expands its existing portfolio by 5,222 rooms.

One should pay attention to the hotel openings

The first notable grand opening is Hilton Santa Marta Pozos Colorados, which will debut on Colombia’s north coast in early 2022. The 17-story property will offer 261 rooms, executive rooms and suites, a signature restaurant, an executive lunch restaurant and four bars. Other notable amenities on the cards include an outdoor pool, fitness center, world-class spa, and over 11,000 square feet of flexible meeting space – including a nearly 4,500 square foot ballroom.

Later that year, in the third quarter of 2022, Hilton Garden Inn Sao Jose Do Rio Preto will celebrate its premiere as part of the Georgina Business Park in the south of São Paulo. The 134 room property will be just five minutes from major business districts and convenient to the airport. In these rooms, business travelers will find various features to make their travels more productive, such as a spacious desk and an ergonomic chair.

In the end, Blackadore Caye will open in Belize in late 2023 and is set to be the greenest island resort ever built. It will include sustainable construction techniques that restore and regenerate the surrounding ecosystem and reverse the effects of climate change. In total, this showcase for biophilic design will include 68 villas, 48 properties and a private clubhouse.
