Additional assistance is rapidly being provided in a large number of areas including Birmingham, Blackpool, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, the Liverpool City area and Warrington.

This support is led by local authorities who are offered a range of assistance.

This support includes:

– Additional resources to assist local authorities with testing, logistics, planning, and manpower to assist with testing, home visits to interact with local residents, and other activities. These can come from the Surge Rapid Response Teams, military aid, or other sources as needed.

– Wastewater test samples are prioritized for sequencing

– Technical communication support to raise awareness and focus engagement with disadvantaged groups

– Maximize vaccine uptake by expanding existing channels, developing new capacities and increasing local and targeted communication to reach different communities;

– Supervised in-school testing and discretionary reintroduction of face coverings in school common areas and classrooms when they and public health directors deem it appropriate;

– Surge tests and improved contact tracking; and

– Improved surveillance (genomic sequencing, genotype assay tests).

The government hopes testing, isolation and vaccinations will help suppress and control the spread of the virus and its variants in the short and long term, when used in combination with people who use existing guidelines such as hands, face, space and fresher Air follow.

The support package comes after Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and the other metropolitan area leaders urged the government to provide more vaccines and help stem the wave of infections here.
