The Belle of Baton Rouge has a nonbinding agreement in place with American Cruise Lines to potentially make regular Baton Rouge stops once the Belle moves inland, the CEO of the casino’s parent company says.

Hollywood Casino, the other downtown Baton Rouge property which shares an owner with the Belle, has launched an official relationship with Viking Cruises and unexpectedly had its first docking recently because the City Dock was unavailable, CQ Holding Company CEO Terry Downey says.

“[Viking] is going to be increasing the number of boats that they’re bringing up and down the river,” he says. “Not only for Hollywood, but they usually spend a whole day in the country side, and they’ll be out in Baton Rouge putting money into the local economy.”

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board recently approved CQ’s plans to move the Belle inland and make $35 million in improvements, which the company says will allow for 200 additional jobs. Hollywood is getting an $80 million upgrade; both will be rebranded with new names.

Viking is expected to make 50 more dockings in Baton Rouge this year, according to discussions at last week’s Downtown Development District meeting.
