De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ran like a well-oiled machine to cruise to yet another sweep, blanking Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-21, 25-8, 25-13, in the NCAA Season 97 women’s volleyball tournament.

The win forged a two-way tie at top spot with both CSB and Arellano University flaunting a 2-0 card while Lyceum dropped to an even 1-1 card.

CSB struggled to get its groove early with Lyceum matching the intensity of the wards of Lady Blazers head coach Jerry Yee. An open hit from team captain Mycah Go then gave CSB a much-needed 21-19 cushion before a one-two play by setter Cloanne Mondoñedo handed the Taft school the first set point, 24-20.

Johna Dolorito saved one set point for Lyceum but sophomore Gayle Pascual completed a combination play as CSB went a set ahead, 25-21.

CSB then made quick work of Lyceum in the second frame with the troika of Cristy Ondangan, Pascual, and Go steering them to a 22-6 advantage. Flaunting its depth, CSB turned to Corrine Apostol who put the finishing kick, 25-8.

Back-to-back attack errors from Dolorito made it a 16-6 affair in favor of CSB in the third set as Lyceum couldn’t find the answers to CSB hits while also committing a series of errors.

A Jade Gentapa ace allowed CSB to move to match point before a quick hit by middle blocks Michelle Gamit put the icing on the cake for the Lady Blazers, 25-13.

CSB will next go up against Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Sunday while Lyceum tackles San Beda University on Saturday.
