Hours after the dates for Coachella and Stagecoach were announced, local hotels started booking.

“This morning at seven o’clock we started getting calls and reservations so we could be ready. We are now open in April because of the calls, ”said Mohammed Nazeem, general manager of Springhill Suites by Marriot in Palm Desert.

Coachella takes place from April 15th to 17th and from April 22nd to 24th.

Stagecoach starts on the weekend after April 29th to May 1st.

Financial studies show that its impact on the valley is significant.

“I think it’s a little less than a billion dollars for all three, two weekends at Coachella and one weekend stagecoach,” said Joe Wallace, CEO of Coachella Valley Economic Partnership.

More than $ 100 million of this will remain in the city of Indio.

And Mayor Holmes says she looks forward to the return of the festivals.

“It’s like okay, yay! We’re coming back to life! “Said Indian Mayor Elaine Holmes.

Mayor Holmes believes the return of these major festivals will help businesses that have struggled through the pandemic.

“The financial component reaches our community, as I said, from the restaurants to all shops to drug stores and grocery stores,” said Mayor Holmes.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from 10am on Friday, and as hotels receive reservations, visitors may notice fewer short-term vacation rental options.

During 2020, several towns in the valley voted to ban them in non-HOA neighborhoods.

“I worry a little if the short-term rental inventory drops below what it takes to have a place to sleep for people when they come here. That could have an impact on the number of visitors, ”said Wallace.

But while everything from COVID security to accommodation will be sorted over the next few months, optimism is high in the valley.

“I think 2022 is definitely ready to be back on track,” said Wallace.
