2021 Florida State Quad Meet

Over the weekend, Florida State hosted a trio of adversaries in the state, including the women from West Florida and North Florida and the men and women from Florida Southern. The meeting was also a fundraiser in support of breast cancer treatment, with the team working with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to sell shirts in support of the TMH Walker Breast Center.

Summary of the women’s meeting

The Seminole women were dominant against their three opponents, won with an average of almost 200 points and took the victory in almost every event.

A team from FSU Tania Quaflieri, Maddy Huggins, Aryanna Fernandes, and Gloria muzito combined for the best time of the meeting in the 200 layer relay. The quartet finished in 1: 42.92. The school also concluded the meeting with a relay victory, finishing first in the 200-free relay in a time of 1: 36.09.

A newcomer from Florida Southern won the 1000 Free, Olivia Miles. Miles broke FSU’s dominance with a huge win in the event and led Maggie Emary the FSU by almost four seconds. Miles’ finished in 10: 26.77 minutes. She later finished 5th in the 500 free (5: 12.42), with FSU’s Phoebe Griffiths Win in 4: 59.23.

At the beginning of the meeting, the FSU conquered the podium in two events, with the Seminole women taking the first three places in both the 200-free and the 100-breasts. In the 200 free it was Nina Kucheran, Ashely Zettle, and Tania Quaglieri who has earned the top 3 places. Kucheran led the field in a time of 1: 52.35, while Zettle was just behind in 1: 52.97. Kucheran was silver medalist in the 100 breast at the 2019 ACC Championships. FSU also took a win in the 200 chest later in the meeting, with Katherine Baker in 2: 23.51.

In 100th place, both West Florida and North Florida finished on the podium, although Florida State was still in first place. While Jaden Herbet took first place in the race with 57.24, followed by UWFs Ester Rizzetto (57,65) and UNFs Taylor Warren (59.41). Rizzetto later took first place in the 100 free with a time of 51.47, while Herbet also took a second win in the 200 back (2: 05.29).

In their second run of the meeting Maddy Huggins led the Seminoles with a first place, followed by Hannah Womer and Nora Woods. Huggins, a newcomer to the team, took the first victory of her college career in 1: 03.04. When she won the event, she beat Womer, a senior citizen who finished 27th in the 100 breast at the 2021 ACC Championships. Womer was not far from this meeting and stopped the clock at 1: 03.37.

Edith Jernstedt won the 200 fly for FSU in a time of 2: 03.75.

While the FSU women were dominant in the pool, they were just as strong on the boards, with the Seminoles taking the top three spots on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. It was on the 1 meter Samantha Vear who drove in close competition with the top grade Victoria Cervantes Milan. Vear narrowly took the win, scoring 284.18 to Milans 280.65. On the 3-meter, Milan was able to complete the top grade in the field with 314.70.

Gloria muzito, a newcomer to Florida State, took on 08/24. first place in the 50 Free. The Seminoles finished the race with the top 4 times.

The final solo event at the meeting went to Florida State Junior South VanOvermeirenwho took first place in the 400 IM. She finished in 4: 24.81.

Summary of the men’s meetings

With only two men’s teams competing at the meeting, the Seminoles had a huge win over Florida Southern.

The Seminoles began the meeting with the best four times in the 200 tier relay, with their A season ending in 1: 29.89.

The team continued their victory in the 1000 Free as a junior Nick Mason Beat teammates Zachary Smith with a time of 9: 26.05. At the next event, Jordan Yanchev got the win in the 200 free. The only swimmer to dive below 1: 40.0 and finish in 1: 39.95. Later in the encounter, he took a second win in the 500 Free and reached 4: 29.84. Yanchev has had a season in which he finished 5th in the 2021 NCAA championships.

The winning streak of the FSU was to end Brandon Dyck im 100 back. The Florida Southern senior hit 50.54, just ahead of Arijus Pavlidi (50.60). Later in the encounter, Pavlidi would claim his own win, with the newcomer taking first place in the 200cc race in 1: 50.16.

The FSU let swimmers win at the next three events. Peter Varjasi won the 100 breast in 55.08, Brennan Hammon claimed the 200 fly in 1: 51.97, and Max McCusker took the 50 off at 8:48 pm.

After diving, Adrian Aguilar took first place in the 100 Free. The Florida State junior was the only swimmer to drop below 46.0 and touch 45.84. Followed him Eli Butters, a freshman to the Seminoles who touched in 46.99.

Ludovico Viberti took first place in the 200 chest and touched in 2: 04.29.

Bricklayer Herbet took first place in the 100 fly with almost a second advantage over other Seminoles Peter Varjasi. Herbt finished 48.56. Nick Mason got the last individual victory of the meeting and reached 4: 00.23 in the 400 IM.

The FSU finished the meeting with a time of 1: 20.52 in the 200-free relay.
