NEEDHAM, Mass., June 9, 2021 / PRNewswire / – A new research paper on travel trends published today by Tripadvisor®, the world’s largest travel advice platform *, shows that the global introduction of vaccines is driving demand for summer vacations, with vaccinated travelers more likely to stay longer and spend more money on their trips than unvaccinated travelers.

The report entitled “A shot in the arm for the trip? To study the impact of the vaccine on the demand for leisure travel‘, provides unique insight into emerging travel planning trends around the world by combining behavioral analysis of first-party search data from Tripadvisor – which reveals the types of trips travelers are actively researching on the world’s largest travel platform – with an analysis of consumer sentiment, collected through travel surveys in six major international markets to explore the latest attitudes and confidence among travelers.

The report identifies clear behavioral differences in the way vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers think about travel and how this is reflected in travel planning behavior on the Tripadvisor platform, with vaccinated travelers being more likely to already book and plan to stay longer spend more when you travel.

In countries like the US and UK, where the introduction of vaccinations has reached large swathes of the adult population, avid travelers are driving the recovery of tourism. On the other end of the spectrum, have countries where vaccine adoption is at a less advanced stage and new variants of Covid-19 have impacted local populations – particularly across the region Asia Pacific Region – experiencing a slower recovery in demand for leisure travel.

“Higher income Millennial travelers drove demand for leisure travel last spring, but over the summer the age demographics of travelers who are now booking vacation has expanded significantly, at least in countries where many people have been vaccinated, “said Stephen Kaufer, CEO and Co-Founder of Tripadvisor, Inc. “If we ever needed proof that vaccines are the key to long-term recovery in the tourism sector, our latest trending data will provide this to ensure vaccines reach and vaccinate every part of the world as soon as possible To make it as easy as possible for tourists to travel around the world again. ”

“After such a tumultuous year, many in the tourism industry are hoping that a busy summer will give the tourism industry a much-needed boost. So it is welcome news that the latest travel data is pointing in this direction, especially for travel destinations and hospitality businesses that are able to meet the growing demand for domestic vacations, “said Christopher Hsi, Head of Market Research, Tripadvisor. “Even greater hope for a long-term recovery is the impact of the vaccine on not only people’s travel confidence, but also their willingness to turn planning into bookings. As more countries make progress in adopting the vaccine, “and the positive impact that should have on reopening international borders, there is good reason to believe that the demand for travelers will continue to grow.”
