Indonesian nationals may soon be able to fly direct to Almaty and Astana, Kazakhstan, as discussions have begun about charter flights and the potential of halal tourism to boost travel between the two countries.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Tourism and Creative Industries Minister Sandiaga Uno and Kazakh Ambassador to Indonesia Daniyar Sareknov discussed direct flights between Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya, East Java, and the Kazakh metropolis of Almaty and its capital Astana, also known as Nur-Sultan .

“I am very optimistic that we can work together in the development of tourism and creative industries after the pandemic,” Sandiaga said in a press release after the meeting.
