LEAVITSBURG – It was just perfection.

Senior Bree Kohler threw a perfect 6-inning game for the runners-up South Range (26-3) in a 10-0 game against Kirtland in the semi-finals of the Division III softball district of LaBrae High School on Tuesday afternoon.

“I didn’t think I’d throw a perfect game,” said Kohler. “I’m more fair and try to get the job done. I mean it’s cool, but the most important thing is that the team won. “

With 15 of the 18 outs that came via strikeout, Kohler never gave Kirtland a chance to get started.

“We explored Kirtland last week,” said Jeff DeRose, South Range coach. “They had 14 or 15 hits. I told our girls they can hit the ball. Well they didn’t. The defense didn’t have to play many games. Bree probably played her best game of the year. “

Kohler threw a perfect game earlier this season. Her battery colleague, second catcher Kelly Szolek (2 for 4, 1 RBI), helped name the perfect game behind the plate.

“When we get into the tournament we feel like we have to win every game,” said Szolek. “We do everything we can to convey the runs. We’re just happy to play a different game. “

The second-occupied South Range played a small ball in the sixth to close it. First, Jillian Strecansky got an infield single. Next, Samantha brought Susany Strecansky to third place. Then Szolek finished it with another bunt and scored Strecansky in the game.

South Range won a district championship in 2019. This time, on Thursday at 5 p.m. in LaBrae High School, Moloch champion Golden Flashes will face the district title of Division III.

“I want to say this year,” said Kohler.

“It’s my senior year, so that’s the goal. We get a lot of runs against good teams. It’s nice to know that our entire team has to come out on top. Everyone does their job. “

South Range was runner-up in 2016. They lost to champion in the region in 2019. Coach DeRose is not aiming for a runner-up in the district final against the third-occupied Flashes (19-7).

“They destroyed us 19:14: 0,” said DeRose. “Our team goal is to make it to the region. We still have one game to reach our goal. Then whatever happens after that. We expect to go all the way. But it’s a game at a time. “
