Agriculture, ecology and water conservation are the other priorities in the district Panchayat budget

Agriculture, tourism, ecology and water conservation were the focus of the annual budget of the Pottayat district for the period 2021-22 of the Kottayam district presented on Saturday. The budget, presented by TS Sarath, Vice President of the Local Authority, provides for income of 94.68 crore, expenses of 86.97 crore and a surplus of 7.7 crore. Nirmala Jimmi, President of Panchayat District, chaired the presentation.

One of the key projects in the budget is Destination Kottayam, which is intended to promote the district’s rural tourism potential. In addition, 10 take-a-break centers will open across the region.

Given the recurring landslides in the high areas, a water management program is being initiated that will map the endangered sites in Meenachil and Kanjirappally Taluks. With the rise in lifestyle diseases among adolescents, open gyms will be opened in all 22 departments.
