EASTON, Massachusetts (September 22, 2021) – After a strong and historic trip to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region Championships in Flushing, New York this weekend, Stonehill College, # 2 on the ITA East Region rankings, returned for team play . back a 6-1 win over the American International College in Northeast 10 Conference Women’s tennis action at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

The details

  • Senior Emma Markaryan and junior Cristina Solorzano Valencia were both double winners to lead Stonehill to victory.
  • Solorzano Valencia, in 4th place in the individual ranking of the ITA Eastern Region, won the match with their 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 1 in the individual against postgrad Meritxell Jimeno-Vicente.
  • Solorzano Valencia and Junior Steffi Antao, the number 3 of the doubles in the East Region, won the colon with a 6: 1 victory in the top division after reaching the double final at the ITA Championships.
  • Markaryan has teamed up with another senior captain Samantha Ormesher for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Markaryan followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles over freshman Victoria Azcona.
  • Junior Lily Peter and newbie Marissa Such also earned double victories for the Skyhawks.

Next

Stonehill (2-1, 2-1 NE10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Saint Michael’s College for an NE10 game at noon. The Skyhawks return home on Sunday, October 3, for the noon time for Southern New Hampshire University. American International (0-3, 0-3 NE10) is visiting the University of New Haven on Saturday.
