New rules for international travel to England from February 15, 2021

Traveling to England from a country on the prohibited travel list

You cannot travel to the UK if you have visited or crossed a country on the no-travel list in the past ten days unless you are a UK national, Irish national or someone on a UK resident visa. Unless otherwise exempted, approved travelers from the UK Travel Ban List must now:

  • take a COVID-19 test and get a negative result in the three days prior to the trip
  • Book and purchase a quarantine package for £ 1750 for an adult in a room that includes: a managed quarantine hotel, quarantine transportation, and a travel test package for COVID-19 testing on the second and eighth day of quarantine. Quarantine hotels are only available at selected ports of entry: Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, London City Airport, Birmingham Airport and Farnborough Airport.
  • Fill out a passenger locator form with details of where you will be quarantined upon arrival. You must provide a Quarantine Package Booking Reference Number to complete your Passenger Search Form.

It is not possible to use the Test to Release Scheme if you have been in or through a country on the travel ban list in the ten days prior to your arrival in England.

Traveling to England from a country that is not on the travel ban list

If you are allowed to enter England from outside the Common Travel Area on or after February 15, 2021, you must:

  • take a COVID-19 test and get a negative result in the three days prior to the trip; and
  • Book and pay for a travel test package at £ 210 that includes COVID-19 tests performed on or before the second day and on or after the eighth day of quarantine; and
  • Fill out a passenger locator form with details of where you will be quarantined upon arrival and the reference number for booking the test package.

It is possible to end the quarantine early by booking a test via the “Test to Release Scheme” on the fifth full day of quarantine. However, it would still be necessary to take a test on or before the second day for variant monitoring and on or after day eight to check for COVID-19. If the 5-day test is positive, it would be necessary to self-isolate for an additional ten days from the last test or from the time the symptoms started appearing.

Fines and imprisonment

Passengers who, when completing a passenger search form, provide false or deliberately misleading information about the countries they have visited in the ten days prior to their arrival in the UK face fines of up to £ 10,000 or up to ten years’ imprisonment, or both. Anyone who violates the quarantine rules can also expect a fine of up to £ 10,000.

You should not leave quarantine until you get a negative result from your test on the eighth day and have quarantined for ten days. Failure to take the tests could face a fine of up to £ 2,000.
