According to the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, 406 hotel projects will be opened worldwide in March, mainly in North America or Europe.

Information in our database indicates that 406 hotel projects with a total of 73,016 rooms will be completed this month. We take a closer look at these exciting properties.

March openings by region

North America tops the list with 135 scheduled launches and 23,350 additional rooms, just ahead of Europe, with 125 openings and 19,136 keys.

At APAC it looks different. The offer is expanded by 84 properties and 19,396 rooms. What is interesting here is the similar number of rooms to Europe and North America despite the lower number of openings, suggesting that each property in APAC will be significantly larger on average.

Elsewhere, 26 hotels in the Middle East will open and 5,849 rooms will be brought into play. There are now 20 product launches with 3,236 keys for Africa on the program, and Latin America closes our overview with 16 new hotels and 2,049 rooms.

Of the 406 hotels that will be launched shortly, 266 will be in the four-star category and the other 140 in the five-star category.

According to our researchers, the USA is by far the fastest growing national hotel market – 112 hotels with 19,513 rooms are scheduled to go into operation here in March.

With that in mind, it’s no surprise that three of the five largest urban hotel markets this month are in the US. Miami Beach and New York will each receive five new hotels with 626 and 1,469 keys, respectively, while four hotels with 1,724 rooms will open in Boston.

With 38 openings and 10,023 rooms, China occupies a distant second place in the international ranking. Great Britain follows in third place with 28 openings and 3,613 keys; Nine of these launches are in London. This makes the UK capital the hottest urban market in terms of hotel completions this month.

Germany will also see impressive growth in its hotel market with 22 projects to be completed, while Spain concludes the ranking with 11 hotels to open here.

The three most active hotel brands this month

Hilton Worldwide seems to show some confidence that travel will recover relatively quickly. It is Hilton Garden Inn The brand takes the lead in the development projects. 13 hotels and 2,402 additional rooms will be completed in March.
