MIAMI, Fla. — Every starting position player for the University of Michigan baseball team scored or recorded a hit as the Wolverines cruised past Seton Hall Monday (Feb. 25) by an 8-2 score at FIU Baseball Stadium.

Michigan (3-2) trailed briefly but stormed back for an emphatic win – already the third of the season after trailing early. Clark Elliot homered for the third time in five games and Matt Frey other Tito Flores added two hits apiece while the Wolverines received 3.2 innings of scoreless relief from Noah Rennard to seal the win.

Both teams scored in the first inning as Michigan claimed a 2-1 lead following a two-out triple from Flores to score Frey and Jimmy Obertopwho had both reached on base hits.

A leadoff double and a single from Seton Hall (0-4) put UM starter Cameron Weston (1-0) on the ropes in the second inning, but he responded with a strikeout before Joe Stewart completed an 8-2 double-play ball by catching an out in center field and throwing out a runner at the plate to get out of the inning.

Elliott gave Michigan a 3-1 lead when he led off the third inning with a deep solo homer to right field.

Weston wriggled out of another jam in the fourth inning as Seton Hall put runners on base with no outs before he struck out a pair. Nine-hole hitter Jeider Hernandez singled with two outs to load the bases, but Weston induced a harmless fly ball from Will Gale as the Pirates stranded six runners through four frames and eight through five.

Michigan pressed in the bottom of the fourth and took a 5-1 lead on a bases-loaded double from Riley Bertram to force a move to the bullpen. Elliott then added a sacrifice fly to tack on another run and Weston again frustrated the Pirates when he stranded two more baserunners in the fifth.

Seton Hall again threatened in the sixth, putting runners on the corners with one out to finally chase Weston from the game after he allowed 10 hits while striking out seven in a gritty effort. Rennard entered and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch but avoided further trouble.

Ted Burton provided another lift in the seventh inning when he rocketed a two-run double down the line in left field and expanded the margin to 8-2 in favor of the Wolverines.

Michigan returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 26) for the first of two games against the Florida International University Panthers. First pitch is slated for 5 pm and streaming is available on the Conference USA website.
