Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced the next steps to lift the COVID-19 lockdown measures.

Mitsotakis announced:

  • On May 3, outdoor restaurants and curfew will be extended to 11:00 p.m.
  • Grammar schools and elementary schools will reopen on May 10th.
  • May 15th Tourism opens up to those who were vaccinated or tested negative for COVID-19 72 hours prior to arrival; Nationwide travel and some cultural activities are also permitted.

At the same time, he pointed out that we are now going through the final and most sensitive phase of the war with the coronavirus.

“I know there is a lot of fatigue, but there are new allies besides us: vaccinations, self-tests, but also the best weather make us optimistic that this unprecedented adventure will end,” he said.

Mitsotakis also said the pandemic appears to be stabilizing.

According to him, the positivity index is declining, albeit slowly, but “the most important thing is that vaccines are effective and that the wall of immunity is being built at a rapid pace”.

“It is unfortunately a fact that the vast majority of those who are intubated are now our unvaccinated citizens,” said the Prime Minister.

Mitsotakis receive COVID-19 vaccine.

He said Greece was unable to end the lockdown measures for Easter on May 2nd as the risk was still high.

“That’s why we’re not allowed to travel at Easter,” he said, adding, “Attica and the big cities still have a lot of COVID cases” and “mass movements run the risk of spreading the virus everywhere.”
