New Delhi: Delhi Police has asked it is officers to improve and improve anti-terror measures to avert any incident in the city. Sources told TOI that several items were discussed at a recent meeting, including anti-terrorist measures.
During the meeting, a senior official told the DCPs about a man believed to be a Naxalites employee who has been staying at a hotel for the past few months without being detected. He later left town. “The DCPs have been instructed to ensure that such incidents never happen again in the future. They have also been asked to be more vigilant to catch such people,” a source said.
The DCPs briefed senior officials on the anti-terrorist measures they were taking in their respective districts. Recently, mock exercises were conducted in several districts and surprise inspections were carried out in boarding houses and hotels. “During an inspection, we go through the registers. If we see anything suspicious about a guest, we ask them about their presence at the hotel and check their records,” an official said.
Another official said he had found in the past that hotel employees did not keep proper records of guests, so action was taken against them. “Staff at hotels and guesthouses have been instructed to collect full data, including proof of ID, from guests and ensure proper video surveillance of the premises,” the official said.
Another point discussed during the meeting concerned the mobilization of personnel for the preparations for Republic Day. Recently, the Delhi Police canceled their staff’s furlough in light of the event.
Verification of street crime-related calls was also discussed and DCPs were asked to verify PCR calls and ensure that action was taken on each matter.
At a previous meeting, sources told TOI, a special commissioner was asked to come up with a comprehensive plan for the city-wide Nakabandi in the event of a heinous crime. The DCPs were instructed to identify the locations for setting up nakas, pickets and barricades.
