EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – ABC-7 learns new details about US immigration and customs efforts to provide temporary shelter for migrant families in Texas and Arizona.

ABC-7 has learned that a second hotel in El Paso also accommodates migrant families and single adults. A representative from the El Paso County Judiciary confirmed that migrants are staying at a Best Western and Comfort Inn and Suites near El Paso International Airport.

District Judge Ricardo Samaniego said the two hotels have a total of 300 rooms. He said he believed the facilities housed 18 single adults and 30 families on Tuesday. The district judge added that the overflow was directed to the Annunciation House.

Judge Samaniego added that the majority of those housed in the facilities are still ultimately being expelled from the country.

ICE has signed a $ 86.9 million contract with San Antonio-based Endeavor to provide protection. The contract will provide support until September 30, according to ICE.

“Custody is said to be short-term, typically less than 72 hours, to allow immigration law processing and reasonable conditions for release while immigration proceedings continue,” ICE said in a statement.

Judge Samaniego said patients with COVID are also housed at the facility but are separated from those who are healthy.
