Madison Brengle had no problem proving she deserved the number 1 based on her performance at the Dow Tennis Classic on Wednesday and made it to the quarterfinals at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
Brengle, ranked 71st in the world, overtook Sachia Vickery 6-2 6-0 in a game that lasted only 49 minutes.
Brengle, who won the 2018 Dow Tennis Classic title, will advance to the quarterfinals on Friday and face Lizette Cabrera, who defeated Kurmi Nara 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 from behind.
Katrina Scott and Danielle Lao also won on Wednesday and secured a spot in the quarterfinals. Scott defeated Catherine Harrison 6-3, 6-1 while Lao defeated Alexa Glatch 6-2, 6-4.
