WHITE PINE – The state’s top-ranked team set the tone early by scoring the game’s first 17 points as Lakeway Christian rolled to a 93-26 win over Berean Christian.

Madi Hawk came out of the gates firing as she scored nine points in a row at one point.

She finished the game with 16 points. Aubrey Laney paced the Lions with 21 points, Nya Burns had 14 points and Maliyah Glasper added 10. With the win, the Lions move to 23-3 overall and 8-1 in district play.

“I was really pleased with our ability to execute what we do,” LCA head coach Randy Coffman said of Friday’s performance. “Sometimes when you are in games when two teams’ journeys don’t match up, where we are a little bit further along in what we are doing than Berean is, it gets hard so I was really pleased with our girls’ focus level to be able to keep our intensity level where it needs to be and to be able to score the basketball like we did without pressure.”

After leading 26-3 after the first eight minutes of play, the Lions kept things going on the offensive end as Laney scored six points in a row late in the second period to send the game to the locker room with the home team sporting a 54 -13 lead. Laney scored nine points in the third to lead the LCA charge. Emma Ball scored four straight points and Avery Stansell capped the scoring with a three-pointer late in the contest to produce the 93-26 final tally.

The Lions play Knox Christian on Monday at 6 pm Coffman said with the end of the regular season in sight and with the post-season just around the corner, he wants to see his team play with the same level of intensity they displayed against Berean.

“The way our schedule fell, it’s probably hurt us a little bit because of the level of competition based on the programs we have had to play late. We have been matched up with the bottom of our league so we really have to be competitive in our practices and we will have to continue to be intense and intentional in what we are doing. We can get better at practice because our depth allows us to do that. I thought we were about as good tonight in doing what we do as we can be.”
